Can we just cut to the chase? It’s a wild ride running your own business compared to the comfy, cozy life of a steady paycheque. Sometimes it feels like you’re just holding on for dear life! But hey, that’s what makes it exciting, right? RIGHT?
Let’s be real—running a business isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. There are days when it feels like everything is falling apart, but then there are those amazing moments that remind you why you started this journey in the first place. I’m struggling a bit right now, but I’m surviving. And guess what? I know I’m not the only one. As a videographer helping small to medium-sized businesses grow their brands, I’ve come to realize that we’re all in this together. We all experience the ups and downs, the ebb and flow. The key is to keep moving forward and support each other along the way. So how do we do this? Well, I will continue to promote my services, network like crazy, and diversify my income streams.
Legacy Videos: Capturing Memories and Spreading Joy
Let’s start with the fun stuff! One of my absolute favorite services is creating Legacy Videos. These are super special videos that capture the memories and stories of families, perfect for our wonderful older population here in Vernon. I recently gave away two Legacy Videos at the Enterprize Challenge and the Seniors Fair at the Schubert Centre. I can’t wait to get started on these projects and see the joy they bring. Plus, I’m hoping word will spread like wildfire once people see how amazing these videos are!
Networking: More Than Just Business Cards
Networking is my jam! I’m all about meeting new people and making connections. Whether it’s through attending local events or growing the North Okanagan Business Women group, I love bringing people together. Our monthly coffee chats and social nights are not only fun but also a great way to support each other and share ideas.
Transitioning from Community Futures: The Next Adventure
Now, here’s where things get a bit real. I’m wrapping up my self-employment program at Community Futures, which means my income support is ending. Yikes! My business isn’t quite firing on all cylinders yet, so I’m on the hunt for a serving or bartending job to keep things afloat. Fun fact: I have over 15 years of experience in the food, beer, and wine industry. I genuinely love working in sports bars, golf courses, and fine dining places. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to network and promote my videography business. So, if you know anyone who’s hiring, hit me up!
Embracing the Entrepreneurial Life
I won’t lie; the transition from a steady paycheck at Shaw TV (where I enjoyed the luxury of salary, benefits, raises, and vacation time) to the unpredictable life of an entrepreneur has been a bit of a shock. But, I’m embracing it! Sure, there are moments of panic, but isn’t that part of the thrill? Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow. I’ve been freelancing for Sproing and Infotel, and I’ll just keeping working hard no matter what.
So, here’s to the ups and downs, the twists and turns. We all have our moments of doubt, but with a little perseverance and a lot of heart, we can keep pushing forward. Let’s enjoy the ride and see where this adventure takes us!
